Congenital Deformity Correction

Congenital Deformities

Congenital deformities occur in many children. Many of these birth defects can lead to a number of health problems down the line, and should be treated as soon as possible. Some of these congenital deformities can be treated by the same techniques we use for lengthening limbs. These include:
- Congenital short femur: The femur is the longest bone in your body and is crucial to normal walking activities. Those born with one or both femurs too short may find movement a challenge. Using various lengthening techniques, we can lengthen the femur to normal size, allowing for completely normal walking.

- Fibular hemimelia: Fibular hemimelia is a birth deformity that results in the absence of the fibula, which is one of two bones that are located in the lower part of the legs. Limb lengthening allows this problem to be treated by creating new bone needed to replace the fibula.

- Ollier's disease: This disorder causes benign tumors to develop near the growth plate cartilage. We can correct this disorder using distraction osteogenesis with the use of external and internal device.
